the street: ron paul is the only republican candidate who isn't an idiot
POSTED ON 9/07/2007 | PERMALINK |7 Comments | BOOKMARK

Paul remains the only antiwar candidate and doesn't mind saying the war is unconstitutional. He thinks the war was a mistake. Why continue a mistake when the cost of the war is high in both American lives and money? he asks. He appears to be the only GOP candidate who's aware that Iraq and 9/11 aren't connected.

Paul also seems to be the only candidate who opposes Bush's usurpation of power. He appears to be the only one familiar with concepts in the Constitution like habeas corpus or civil rights.
Please don't read this as my endorsement of Ron Paul. He's a breath of fresh air in the republican race, but he's still an ass-backward hypocrite when it comes to stuff like keeping the government away from a women's right to choose. He still has that standard Republican thing where they throw the whole "small government" belief out the window when women or Jesus come into the picture.

"He still has that standard Republican thing where they throw the whole "small government" belief out the window when women or Jesus come into the picture."

Wrong, he's consistent, thinks abortion should be left up to the states to decide, that's the constitutional position.

And he is a devout Christian but virtually never brings this up unless asked specifically.

Also, the man has delivered 4,000 babies. If you disagree with his stance, that's fine, but at least respect that his stance is somewhat informed, coming from his life experience.

he supports government limiting a woman's right to choose. it's really irrelevant which level of government he supports doing it. he wants to use government to enforce his personal, religious values...

I had a flash, typed "is the only republican" into google, and found this, among other, sites.

What you find is "Ron Paul is the the only Republican this", and "Ron Paul is the the only Republican that".

I have yet to find a site where someone says, "Ron Paul is the the only Republican. PERIOD." Or, I suppose more precisely, "Ron Paul is the the only actual, small-'r' republican running on the Republican ticket up to now.

It really sheds light on an important fact; the shanghaiing of the Republican party by neofeudalists.

There is no scientist that disputes that a baby 1 minute before birth is any different developmentally 1 minute after.

Why is it "abortion" 1 minute before birth, but "murder" 1 minute after?

At what point do you draw the line? Late-term abortions are essentially infanticide. Why stop at 1 minute before birth? Why not abort 3 year old retards that you don't like?

I think as an issue, it should be left to the states.

I hate how anti-abortionists are pro-death penalty. And pro-"choice to kill a baby" are anti-death penalty.

Ron Paul finally represents someone who is just PRO-LIFE. No killing, period. Finally.

No war. No death penalty. And encourages the states to choose on abortion. Giving us freedom to finally say no more killing.

And let states say hopefully no sucking the brains out of babies as they stick their head out of the womb (partial birth abortion really sick, as a human I just feel enraged, it's on a Nazi level of sadistic treatment of humans like they are animals).

If the baby manages to push itself, instead of just the head but whole body out, it would be murder at that point. I don't get that.

Society is just fucked up.

sorry jonathan
being a man you really have no say on the matter of a WOMANS right to choose.

Its not the governments job to decide my morals.

Leave something like this to the states is asking for a country that is so dramatically different between state lines you wont be able to call it a union.

That's what people don't get though. Ron Paul is pro-choice in from his personal beliefs. That does NOT mean he would be for the government limiting abortion just like that. He believes the states should decide.

If you oppose this view of his then you basically want the federal government to make a law making abortion legal in ALL states no matter what. THAT would be ass-backwards with his beliefs in limiting the federal governments power.

I could easily argue that Democrats do the "ass-backwards" thing of supposedly valuing life when it comes to protecting animals and opposing the death penalty, but turn around when it comes to a developing baby. But that would be a moot point anyway considering that Ron Paul does not support banning abortions. He supports the states deciding as opposed to the federal government, which is completely in-line with the rest of his views.
